Carolyn Wojciechowski (Haluda) - Class Of 1964 VIEW PROFILE

Carolyn Wojciechowski (Haluda)

Carolyn M. (Wojciechowski) Haluda

Carolyn M. Haluda, 76, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on March 29 after concluding her lifelong research on the viability of an all ice cream diet. She was born on April 27, 1946 to Arthur and Loretta (Kitkowski) Wojciechowski.

After graduating from Washington High School in 1964, Carolyn studied psychology and Russian at IUSB, hoping to eventually become an elementary school teacher. On November 9, 1968, she married Thomas L. Haluda, who passed away in 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Loretta, her older sister Cathy Kopinski and younger brothers David, William (“Moochie”), and Darryl Wojciechowski. She is survived by her sisters Suellen Firtl and Patricia Zakrocki; daughters Tracie (Bryan) Bedell, Jennifer Haluda, and Wendy Haluda; grandchildren MK and Calvin Bedell; granddogs Hope and Bob; and many blood and adopted nieces and nephews.

Carolyn considered herself an amateur archaeologist, always on the lookout for mastodon fossils during summer vacations in Michigan. Her non-peer-reviewed article on the origins of memory loss and dementia caused a stir when it was published in Chicago-based Moo Juice magazine. Before the kids went to school, Carolyn indulged her creative side, baking wedding and special occasion cakes out of the house. She then worked at the former Huron Pharmacy, where many shifts were interrupted by phone calls from the neighbors about the Haluda girls fighting in the yard. She moved on to the hallowed halls of local government, eventually retiring from the St. Joe County Auditor’s office, where she ran the plat room.

Carolyn enjoyed ice cream, her grandkids, the casino, college and pro football, sunsets on a lake, and a really good bloody mary.

Visitation followed by mass will be on April 4 at 10am at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, 1701 Miami St., South Bend, IN 46613. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana at Feedindiana.org. To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com
