Kathy L. Compton (Sayer)

KATHLEEN L. (COMPTON) SAYER

Oct. 31, 1945 - Dec. 23, 2012 ELKHART - Kathleen "Kathy" L. Sayer, 67, of Elkhart, Indiana (formerly of South Bend, Indiana) passed away at 1:55 a.m. Sunday, December 23, 2012, in her home. She was born on October 31, 1945, to Norman T. and Lola Mae "Jo" (Gilmore) Compton in South Bend, Indiana, and was a lifelong area resident. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Norman T. Compton; stepfather, Clyde Wise; mother-in-law, Irma Sayer; and an older sister, Nancy (Joe) Chmiel. On November 11, 1987, as Kathleen L. Compton, she married Ronald D. Sayer in South Bend, Indiana.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Sayer of Elkhart, Indiana; mother, Lola Mae "Jo" Wise of South Bend, Indiana; daughter, Kelli Compton of South Bend, Indiana; siblings, Diana Korpal of South Bend, Indiana, Ginny (husband, Daryl) Holycross of Plymouth, Indiana, and Ronald (wife, Georgianne) Compton of South Bend, Indiana. She was an aunt to nine nieces & nephews, great-aunt to 24 children, and great-great-aunt to one child.

Kathy graduated in 1964 from Washington High School.

She held various clerical positions throughout her working career. Kathy retired in 2010 from Hearth and Home Design Center, where she worked for 12 years. She was a simple woman, loyal to her friends, supportive of her family in all they did, adored her husband and daughter, loved to read, and was known to make a terrific potato salad. It was probably due to the love she put into making it. Kathy put love into everything she did.

A Memorial Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Memorial Service will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. David Klahr officiating. Attendees are requested to dress casual, no suits or ties preferred. Kathy wanted everyone to be comfortable in "every day" clothes; tennis shoes are encouraged.

In her memory, the family requests that you honor Kathy by doing a good deed for someone else. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road, South Bend, Indiana 46628; or to the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
