David A. Bogunia, age 76 of Dayton, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2023 while under Hospice care at the Dayton V.A. Medical Center. He was born on September 24, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Walter and Kathryn Bogunia. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Gertie “Granny” VanOverberghe and brother-in-law, Jack Yarbrough.

David (who preferred to go by "Dave") is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon Bogunia; son, Norm (Terri) Bogunia; three grandchildren; and sister, June Yarbrough; He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana. Following service in the USAF, he graduated from Riverside City College in California. He was also a member of the American Legion. Dave spent most of his adult life in the transportation industry, employed as a dispatcher for several trucking companies. He enjoyed classic/muscle cars, listening to the Beatles, watching Notre Dame football with his son, reading mystery novels, watching gameshows and tinkering in his garage. The most important thing to Dave was his family. He is well loved and will be deeply missed.

The family hopes that those who would like to honor him will find a quiet time to remember who he was in your life and be thankful for the time you had together. In lieu of a public funeral service, individual families are encouraged to listen to “The Long and Winding Road” by the Beatles, one of Dave's favorite songs of all time. David will be laid to rest at the Dayton National Cemetery. Honors will be rendered at a later date, please check back.
