Robert L. Peterson, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, in his hometown of South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 76. Born on October 23, 1947, to the late Clinton H. Peterson and Lena E. (Fritz) Peterson.

Robert, was a proud graduate of Purdue University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Science in 1970. His love for his alma mater was lifelong, as he remained an active member of the Purdue Alumni Association, often found cheering on the Boilermakers during football and Basketball season.

Professionally, Robert was a respected engineer who worked for various industrial companies throughout his career.

He married the love of his life, Cathy M. (Seggerman) Peterson on April 3, 1976 and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared pursuits. Robert was a devoted father to his sons, Matthew L. Peterson and John R.S. (Victoria) Abram-Peterson, and a doting grandfather to Nikolas Abram-Peterson. His guidance and wisdom will be deeply missed by his family, including his sisters, Nancy Vassar, Terry (Harold) Mitchell, and Sandy Clingenpeel.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Darwin Peterson.

Robert's interests were as varied as they were passionate. A man of faith, he was a member of his local Presbyterian church, where he served in various capacities over the years. His love for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms that adorned his yard each spring and the bountiful harvests that graced his family's table. Robert also found solace in the pages of Western novels and the challenge of Sudoku puzzles, hobbies that provided him with hours of enjoyment and relaxation.

Funeral Services for Robert will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel 17033 Cleveland Rd. South Bend, In 46635.  Friends may visit with family from 12:00 pm until the time of services.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
