Helen A. (Ryback) Vukovits

Helen A. Vukovits, 74, of South Brookfield Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Monday, May 19, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Helen was born on Oct. 11, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Antonina (Putek) Rybak. On Oct. 8, 1955, in South Bend, as Helen A. Rybak, she married John E. Vukovits, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1998. Mrs. Vukovits was also preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and John Rybak.

Helen is survived by two sons, Gary J. (Vicki) Vukovits and Terrance L. (Cindy) Vukovits, both of South Bend; a grandson, Peter Vukovits; two godchildren, Jaime and Jennifer; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Vukovits was a credit clerk for NIPSCO for 38 years before retiring in December 1988. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and a Forever Learning Institute student. She enjoyed quilting and shared many of her quilts with her family. Helen especially loved spending time with her grandchild, Peter.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, May 21, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a 7 p.m. parish Rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 3501 S. Locust Road, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 3501 S. Locust Road, South Bend, IN 46614.
