Daniel was born on February 2, 1931 in South Bend to Andrew and Martha (Pierzynski) Popielski.
On December 26, 1957 he married JoAnn Schmidt who survives along with two daughters Andrea Popielski (Joe Urbanski) of South Bend and Gail Popielski West of Walkerton, two sons David Popielski and Kurt Popielski both of South Bend, six grandchildren Adam Urbanski, Taylor Urbanski, Andrew Popielski, Thomas Popielski, Barry West and Garrett West and a sister Ruth Szekendi. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law Christine Popielski, two sons-in-law, John VanNevel and Todd West, sister Dorothy Pacay and brother Richard Popielski.
