Mark Steenbeke - Class Of 1971 VIEW PROFILE

Mark Steenbeke

Mark Steenbeke, 68, of South Bend passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Mark was born to the late Julius and Marie (DeFreeuw) Steenbeke on October 11, 1952, in South Bend. On July 8, 1995, he married Becky Gevaert.

Mark is survived by his wife of 25 years, Becky Steenbeke; children, Kimberly (Bill) Raker, Brian (Becca) Steenbeke, Jeremy (Katie) Hazelton, Aimee (James Batton) Merino, Courtney (Brandon) Hopkins, Eric (Emily) Steenbeke; step-children, Christy (Andy) Tolch and Tricia (Coby) Deal; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and siblings, Donna Marie Reimer and Allen Steenbeke. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Louise Rucano and David Steenbeke.

Mark was a 1971 graduate of Washington High School. He worked for South Bend Community School Corporation for 28 years and coached football for the school system for 30 years. Mark currently worked for Martin’s Supermarkets Corporate Office as a custodian where he had become affectionately known as, “the Scrubbing Bubble.” He enjoyed spending his free time watching college and pro football and going every Friday to a high school game with his good friend, Dave. He was quite a World War II history buff. Mark liked to walk along Weco beach in Bridgman Michigan in the summer.

A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Mark’s honor may be made to Meow Mission, PO Box 192, Mishawaka, IN 46546.
