Erik Szymanski

Erik M. Szymanski

Erik M. Szymanski, 35 years old, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in South Bend. Erik was born May 31, 1986 in South Bend to David and Peggy (Skees) Szymanski. Erik is preceded in death by his father.

Along with his mother, those left to cherish the memory of Erik are his son, Devin Szymanski; his significant other of 7 years, Lori Mroz; his sister, Heather Szymanski; grandmother, Irene Szymanski; cousins, Danny (Christie) Clevenger, Jackie James, Anthony Lubeslski, Michael Miller, Michelle Skees, Cody Oswalt, Brittany Conley, Danny Clevenger, Brian Skees, and Andrea (Michael) Moreaux. Erik is also survived by his aunt, Mary-Jane (Larry) Bates.

Erik was a lifelong resident of Michiana. After graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Erik was a very handy person. He loved working with his hands and was very mechanically adept. He was known as a Jack of All Trades. Erik was also a loving and gentle person. He would literally give you the shirt off of his back. He was a big guy standing at 6’4” with a huge heart to match his size. He loved to joke around and had a cheeky smile with a goofy laugh. Above all, he loved his family – especially his son, who was the light of his life. He will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial service with military honors at a later date. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Erik M. Szymanski to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), PO Box 49104, Baltimore, MD 21297. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
