Kenneth A. Nowak, 49, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, in his residence.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1949, in South Bend, Ind., and was the son of Alex and Bernadine Nowak, who preceded him in death. Mr. Nowak was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Nowak, who died on Aug. 10, 1996.

He was employed by Mohawk Flush Doors, Inc., until October 1997, and was an employee of the former South Bend Toy for 10 years.

On April 26, 1980, he married Josephine Urbanski, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Dawn (Brent) Stone of South Bend; three grandchildren, Brandon Stone, Desirea Stone and Colin Stone, all of South Bend; two sisters, Dr. Sue Nowak of Chicago, Ill., and Sharen Zielinski of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by two nephews, Mark Zielinski of Mishawaka and Mike Zielinski of Washington, D.C.

Mr. Nowak was a Marine Corps Reserve Forces Class III veteran of Viet Nam. He was an Amtrac Crew Man, and received medals for National Defense Service, Vietnam Service with a Gold Cluster, and a Combat Action Ribbon. He also received a Vietnam Campaign Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.

He was a member of St. Joseph Young Mens Society, the Polish American Civic and Social Club, Disabled American Veteran White Eagle Chapter 39, and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1167.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Mary Polish National Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
