 Ronald M. Fitz
February 1, 1954 - May 6, 2018
Ronald M. Fitz of Colorado Springs died suddenly at his Colorado Springs home on May 6 at the age of 64.
Fitz worked for the University of Colorado for 26 years, most of that as the Colorado Springs reporter for the University-wide Silver & Gold Record newspaper.
Ron was born Feb. 1, 1954 in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from Washington High School (South Bend) in 1972 and attended Valparaiso University. He completed his bachelor's degree in communications at the University of Colorado.
Ron was a trivia master, inducted in 1988 into the CU Trivia Bowl Hall of Fame. He was a member of three Trivia Bowl champion teams. Ron's breadth of knowledge on all things music - especially 50s and 60s music - astounded all those who knew him. A month before he passed away, Ron competed in the 50th annual Trivia Bowl in Boulder, part of the team "3 Zombies Outside Renae Foxhoven, Missouri," which made it to the quarterfinals. He also collected coins, stamps, music and movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl L. and Gladys Fitz, siblings Carl (Snookie), Robert and Carolyn (Zieba). He is survived by his brother Richard, sister Mary (O'Higgins) of Colorado Springs, Ruth, Patty Ann, Susie and Chelsea.
Ron's remains were cremated by Chapel of Memories in Colorado Springs; his ashes were scattered in Indiana.
