GRANGER - Eugene L. Meszaros, 74, passed away at 3:00am Sunday, October 29, 2017 in his residence.

Eugene was born on December 14, 1942 in South Bend to Louis and Helen (Lechtanski) Meszaros, who preceeded him in death. He was also preceeded in death by a sister, Barbara Meszaros, in 1936.

Eugene grew up in South Bend, attending Our Lady of Hungary and St. Patrick's grade schools, St. Joseph High School, and Washington High School, where he graduated in 1961. He worked for his first car as a pin setter at German Club in the bowling alley. He also spent time working at the University of Notre Dame on the grounds crew and in food service. In the sixties, he met Christine Rakowski, and they were united in marriage on May 3, 1969.

Together, they enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends and family, and going on bowling tournments. In 1989, with their son, Allen, they moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina when Eugene accepted a job transfer with Honeywell. They resided there until his retirement from Honeywell in 2001, moving back to South Bend. They spent 47 years together, before her death on July 19, 2016.

Eugene was a member of German Club, Knights of Columbus, and was an avid bowler, euchre player, and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his nephew Eric Wroblewski. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame football, the Cubs and the Bears.

Surviving are a daughter, Antonette (James) Needham of South Bend, son Allen (Wendy) Meszaros of Rocky Mount, NC, grandson Christopher Needham of South Bend, sister Rosemary Meszaros of South Bend, sister-in-law Barbara Wroblewski of South Bend, Godson Eric Wroblewski of South Bend, aunt Marge Lechtanski of South Bend, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 7:00pm Friday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Family and friends may gather from 5-7 in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Bass Federation, Inc, Indiana Wildlife Federation, Inc. and Boy Scouts Lasalle Council.
