SOUTH BEND - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, Freddie Lee Lindsey, 81, of S. Iowa St. was called home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2016, at West Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation.

On September 13, 1934, Freddie Lindsey was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to the union of George (Bezzel) Wands and Etta Wands-Williams. After relocating to South Bend, IN, Freddie received his formal education from Washington High School. A hard worker and family provider, he retired after working over 20 years at Elkhart Foundry. In his spare time Mr. Freddie Lindsey could be seen in the stadiums at Notre Dame watching the football & basketball games with his season tickets.

The words rang clear, “Those who God put together let no man put asunder” on September 10th, 1955, Freddie Lee Lindsey married his soulmate, Barbara Jean Edwards. Freddie and Barbara Lindsey were blessed with 60 years of marriage. Answering his calling, he served faithfully over a decade on the ushering board & repast committee as a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, under Pastor William W. Kirk and his successor, Pastor/Teacher Andre' A. McGhee.

Left to cherish his loving memory are wife, Barbara Jean Lindsey; two daughters, Shelley (Evans) Riviere and Leslee R. Rouse; one son, Brian (Allison) Lindsey, all of South Bend, IN; two sisters, Felica Wands-Williams and Dolores (Robert) Joyce; one brother, Sylvester (Dagmar) Wands; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Mr. Lindsey was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Willie Williams, Uncle Donald Wands and Clarence Wands, and one sister, Etta Patterson. The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff at West Bend Nursing & Rehabilitation for taking care of Mr. Lindsey.

Home Going Celebration Services are Wednesday, June 29, 2016. Viewing is 10 AM and Service is 11 AM at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 101 N. Adams St., South Bend, IN 46628.
